Why a bird art challenge?
Back in December, I started an ABC bird pattern challenge (you can check this post for a recap of my 26 bird patterns). I had a lot of fun making cute, silly birds, and also learnt about new species. It was also not always easy to come up with new layouts (I tried to make them somewhat coherent in style, but as different as possible). I set from the start not to post every day and I ended up making multiple patterns on some days and none on other days.
Last month, I took part in Feathruary and even though I only joined in a bunch of prompts, I got to discover a lot of artists making birds and had a confirmation that I truly enjoy making birds patterns and illustrations. They have become one of my favourite subjects.
These last few days, I am seeing a lot of posts about the 100 days project. It’s a great way to practice and get better at some specific technique or subject, and I considered doing a 100 days bird challenge. However, between the website launch, portfolio prep etc., I knew it would be too stressful to add yet another thing.
That’s why I created this mini-challenge and chose to include only 4 prompts (one per week) , keeping them as open as possible so they can be combined with other challenges (I’ll definitely mix some prompts myself).
